Couples therapy, sometimes referred to as marriage counseling or marital therapy is a form of psychotherapy where that
relationship is the focus of attention. A trained therapist can help partners identify the underlying reasons for conflicts and
breakdowns in communications, as well as chronic dissatisfaction. The therapist can help the couple change their ways of
interacting with each other by learning how to communicate more effectively, i.e. how to listen more attentively, how to hear
one another more accurately, and how to respond in a way that the partner could hear. The goal of couples therapy is to
help couples maintain a mutually satisfying relationship where both partners are fully respected and acknowledge. When
each partner gets his/her needs met they can both function and as an effective unit.

A typical couple session lasts 60 minutes.
