The family, primarily the parents, is the principal caregiver and center of strength and support for a child. Research data strongly suggest that children’s relationships with their parents have significant effects on the development of the child’s brain, with long-term consequences for learning, behavior, and health. Secure attachment history, along with parents’ sensitive responsiveness in childhood, facilitates the child’s lifelong resilience and adaptation and provides “protective factors” that help the individual competently function even under adverse circumstances. Competent parenting is, therefore, extremely important for a child’s growth and development.

A typical parent consultation lasts about 60 minutes.
Parenting groups that focus on a common parenting issue last about 90 minutes.
These groups are available periodically.
